Methotrexate causes interference to the growth of certain cells, especially the ones that reproduce faster like cancer cells, bone marrow cells, and skin cells.

Methotrexate is used for the treatment of certain types of cancer of the breast, skin, head and neck, or lung. It is also used in the treatment of severe psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Usage

Following the dosage instructions of your doctor is the best way to use any medication. If you are unsure or do not remember the instructions then you may read the medicine label for more detailed information.

You may choose to take Methotrexate with a meal to avoid an upset stomach.

Please drink extra fluids during the course of Methotrexate consumption.

It is very important that you complete the dosage schedule and do not interrupt it in between without seeking prior consultation from your doctor.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Methotrexate is classified as an antimetabolite. It helps treating cancer by blocking a certain enzyme needed by the cells to grow. Thus the growth of cancer cells slows down. The exact way this drug helps in treating rheumatoid arthritis is not yet known although it helps to reduce the inflammation due to rheumatoid arthritis.

Missed Dose

Despite your best attempts at remembering, if you still miss out on a dose skip the missed dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never try to compensate for the missed dose by taking a double dose together. It may cause adverse effects.
